Life Member Walter Killius, 90, Passed away today. Born in Syracuse, the son of the late Carl and Emma Mutter Killius, he was also predeceased by his brother, Carl. During WW II, he served in the US Navy and was Chief Machinist Mate in the Naval Reserve. In 1990, he retired from Carrier Corp after 43 years, having worked on Trident Submarines and continued as a consultant for another seven years. For seventeen years, he had wintered at the Tarpon Springs Resident Owned Community where he was a board member.
Walter was a North Syracuse Lion’s Club past president, zone chair and a member of Lion’s of Cotee River. He was a Special Deputy under Patrick Corbett, later was an Onondaga County Park Ranger and was on the Pinellas County Sherriff’s Advisory Committee. As an American Red Cross Volunteer, he was an Emergency Response Vehicle driver. In 1960, he joined the North Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department, became a life member and was one of the original seven founders of NAVAC. Services will be Monday October 8th at 10:30amat Fergerson Funeral Home with a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse followed by burial with Military honors in North Syracuse Cemetary. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street.
